Puttin' funk down with The Heard! 1/19/12

Here is some particularly good footage of me playing drums with a Chicago funk band I recently joined called The Heard.  This particular show was my first time playing with them and I had a great time! We chucked out some originals and a plethora of covers from bands like The Meters, Lettuce, Orgone, Karl Denson, and The New Mastersounds.  Very fun group of guys to play with and killer musicians as well!  Currently, we have a residency every third Thursday of the month at a venue called Alive One located at 2683 N. Halsted in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.  Expect more good things to come!

The Mad Quartet : "Slim's Return" LIVE AT SURA - May 11'

This is some footage from way back in spring of this year.  It was a quartet I conceived in dedication to Mad Lib's album entitled "Shades of Blue".  That evening we performed most of the songs from the album in entirety and the song from this clip is the title track off Shades of Blue called Slim's Return.             We only had 1 rehearsal to put together the material for that night so the performance wasn't perfect but I'd say we definitely had the essence of the album vibe down.
The amazing thing about this Mad Lib album is that as a hip hop producer, Mad Lib had a brief record deal with Blue Note Records which means that he was able to have access to thousands of masters from Blue Note recording sessions with no commitment to paying copyright fees for sampling them.  That my friends is the equivalent to a hip hop producers wet dream!
